Location
I took this photo while hiking over the mountain pass between the village of Hellesylt and the Stryn Lake in Norway, as part of a shore excursion on a Costa cruise.Time
This was relatively early on the hike, so I would guess that this was probably about mid-morning.Lighting
The weather was a bit of a mixed bag that day. The morning started off with an overcast and light sprinkles of rain from time-to-time. Eventually, the skies cleared some and we got some sunlight, but at the time this was taken, the sky was cloud covered and the light relatively flat, with little or no shadows.Equipment
I shot this photo handheld, using my Pentax *ist DL camera and a Pentax DA 18-55 mm zoom lens.Inspiration
This was the first time I had encountered sod roofs, and I was intrigued by them. But this abandoned shed really sparked my imagination, with trees beginning to grow from the roof. I quickly snapped a couple of shots, but couldn't linger because I would get left behind by the rest of the group.Editing
No post-processing was done to this image. This is how it came out of the camera. In my camera bag
For this hike, I was carrying two virtually identical Pentax *ist cameras (a DS and a DL). The DL had the shorter 18-55 mm lens mounted while the DS had the longer 50-200 mm lens attached. This allowed me to choose focal length ranges by simply switching camera.Feedback
There are interesting images all around us, all of the time. The challenge is in recognizing them. It is easy to capture interesting images when you are somewhere new, but more challenging in familiar surroundings. Try to imagine how a visitor might react to your area. What might they find interesting? Try to capture those things.
