Nice shot, Duffy. I particularly like the color of the church's wood planking and texture. Great find.

Thanks Uncle! Yeah we got just a peek of sun for this one, whereas most of the afternoon was a little too hazy. I appreciate your thoughts...

The wide angle perspective and warm colors are great! I love Bodie, but getting a shot without clutter and people is sometimes a tough job. Well done!

i am always amazed how even a slight chance in lighting effects a photo; great job!

What's that saying, "Even a blind pig finds a truffle occasionally?" That's me I guess...! :))

Love the angled presentation where everything is centered toward the middle of the composition. Well done.

Outstanding Duffy. I haven't been there in many years but am heading back to Bodie in September.

Thank you. It was on my bucket list for years, and didn't disappoint. I wish it was open later. I can only imagine the images that might be available in the deep "blue hour," or on a brightly moon lit night!

LOVE this photo, Duffy! For many years we took our children to Mammoth Lakes for our summer vacation, and a trip out to Bodie was always the highlight. Going back one more time is on MY bucket list!

Thank you Grammy! There is so much to explore in this area. I look forward to the day when we can simply park the RV in the Alabama Hills, and take it all in organically... Cheers!

I'm amazed you were able to get this with no people in it. I've been to Bodie numerous times and RARELY to do I ever find a shot sans people. Love the perspective, color, and composition of this shot.

People with their modern dress would have expressed a very different meme. I guess I was lucky...or patient! Thanks for your comments! :))

Hi Duffy, I didn't realize this was your image of the iconic Bodie Church. I had entered my version in a photo contest in one of the Photo clubs I'm in , and they said it was beautiful but nothing special or different. You my friend have definitely given this church a new perspective!!!! KUDOS to all your wins!

That's awful nice of you, thank you! This image seems to resonate with people. Bodie was on my bucket list for so long... Maybe some of my delight came through, some of my awe of it... I don't know. I appreciate your kind words...

Thank you Heidi! It is surreal standing there in that empty place...

Thank you Rick. It had been a little overcast, lucky for me just a touch of warmth broke through just before sundown. Thank you for your kind words!

Location
In Bodie. Bodie is a California Historic State park. It's an abandoned mining community at about 8500 feet above sea level, located just east of the Sierras.Time
We arrived about an hour before sundown, on a relatively hazy/overcast day.Lighting
The clouds partially opened for this shot which gave the old wood planking a touch of warmth... Lucky me!Equipment
I usually carry two cameras when I am out shooting. This image was taken with my Nikon D600 and my 16-35mm F/4 lens. This is a terrific combination as the second camera for walk-arounds. The other camera has a 24-70mm F/2.8, for a different perspective and a little more reach. This was shot hand held. I do love Tripods, but I love the freedom of hand held shooting. See---> Capture...!Inspiration
Bodie has been on my bucket list for years. When I finally got there I found it to be even more magical than I had anticipated! I was walking around on an inspirational high. I could literally have spun in a circle and shot in any direction, however the opening of a tiny bit of light on this church, added a tiny bit extra for this one.Editing
Just my typical RAW developing: leveling, lens correction, sharpening. I then added a bit of vignette, a touch of clarity, and vibrance. I try to get as much in camera as possible, but all RAW shots need developing...In my camera bag
In my bag I carry two Nikon full frame bodies, a D600 and a D810. They will most likely be mounted with a Nikon 16-35mm F/4 and a Nikon 24-70mm F/2.8 respectively. I carry other lenses too, a Nikon 28-300, a Sigma Art 50mm F/1.4, and a couple of Nikon SB-700s. I have a bunch of other lenses, but more and more I leave them home. For my kind of shooting, walking around and trying to comment on my world through my Photography, this kit seems to fit the bill...Feedback
I have learned there are four basics of a good Photograph: 1. Content Quality (subject/topic) 2. Emotional Quality (expression/story/relationship) 3. Creative Quality (composition/presentation) 4. Technical Quality (sharpness/exposure/DOF) All of these considerations are equally important, but without a heavy dose of #s 2 and 3, it is unlikely you are going to connect with your viewer...
