This capture reminds me of stories I have read - the trees are perfect, bending a little and the atmosphere is so perfect. Awesome shot!!!

Perfect. The old growth Redwood forests of NorCal are the most serene places I have ever personally experienced. Thank you for your thoughts! :))

Location
I took this shot form the western bank of the Smith River in Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park.Time
This shot was taken late in the day. I had earlier proposed to my wife while hiking on a redwood trail during a downpour. By the time of this shot the rain had dissipated and a heavy mist rose in its place...Lighting
Th lighting was soft, so I was confident I could capture a good deal of the dynamic range of the scene.Equipment
I used a Nikon D50. The best camera in the world after all is the one you have with you!Inspiration
The Redwoods are a place where it is very easy to see that I am part of something much larger, something unfolding in a time frame that is far longer than a human lifetime... This scene seemed to portray this experience clearly.Editing
I performed a levels and curves adjustment, adding some mid-range contrast, but the semi- unsaturated look was actually there, due to the fog and mist...In my camera bag
These days when I go hiking, I carry two Nikon FX bodies on a double Black Rapid. One is outfitted with a Nikon 24-70 mm F/2.8, and the other has a Nikon 16-35 mm F/4 mounted on it. I also carry a Nikon 50 mm F/1.4. If I'm shooting an outdoor portrait, I might use my Nikon 85 mm F/1.8 with an SB-700 flash. For Real Estate work I strictly use the 16-35 mm F/4 with the same flash...Feedback
