I actually took this photo in my backyard! I focused the lens through some leaves so that the green haze would appear.Time
Every single time I need a model for pictures, I ask my sister to model for me. The day I took this was no exception! I convinced her to come outside with me sometime in the afternoon for a few portraits that I thought I would Photoshop for hours afterwards, but this one turned out so magnificent that I only made a few changes.Lighting
The lighting here is all natural, which is unusual for me! I usually rely on Photoshop to fix all of my lighting issues, but that wasn't a problem here.Equipment
This was shot on a Canon T4i with an 18-55mm lens.Inspiration
I'm so moved by anything magical; I'm really a child at heart. Rosie Hardy is my biggest inspiration! Her images have a certain effervescence that I wish I could recreate in all of my work. I knew when I did this shoot that I wanted an elf look, and it came out even better than I'd hoped.Editing
I love Photoshop as much as I love Photography; perhaps even more, so I expected to take an okay photo and turn it into something spectacular with a few hours of editing. As soon as I looked into the viewfinder though, I saw a perfect opportunity and I took it. So I only spent an hour or so Photoshopping the eyes, which are originally honey brown, and pulling out the ear to make it elf like.In my camera bag
I always carry my trusty Canon T4i and two lenses. The first one came with my camera body; an 18-55mm lens, and the other one is an 80mm f/1.4 fixed lens, which I got specifically for portraits since those are my favorite types of photos.Feedback
Creating pictures with fantastical elements can definitely be a challenge. One way to make it a little easier is by using props. There are stunning costumes and props on Etsy, even if you're on a budget like me. A low aperture is also a great way to make a portrait more powerful. Usually I wouldn't take a photo with the subject looking right at the camera, but it can really enhance the energy that the image gives off. Finally, I'd say contrast brings a magical element to any photo. For instance, my sister's pale face makes the green eyes far more striking.
