I had the opportunity to be at the inaugural "Banquet in a Field" for the organization CommonGround in North Dakota. It was a beautiful event. Those that were invited to the event experienced the way food is grown, how it looks in the field and then finally how it tastes. I instantly gravitated to these spoons reflecting the sunflowers. I didn't think something so ordinary, could be so beautiful.

Great to see this image again among the Hall of Fame photos. You welcomed me to ViewBug back in Jan of this year with the first peer award that I received for the first image I posted. ViewBug is a great community that I continue to really enjoy. Thanks again for welcoming me into it, and for the thoughtful creative images you share.

I think this photo is amazing. As simple and clean as it is, it tells an intricate story. Makes me want to go on a picnic with the ones I love!

It was around the beginning of the Banquet in a Field when people were just about to enjoy beautifully handcrafted appetizers made from North Dakota agricultural products. Appetizers started at 5:30 p.m. with main course served at 6 p.m.Lighting
It was a beautifully hot summer August evening. The sun was slowly dipping to into the West horizon. There wasn't a cloud in the sky and so when I took the photograph of the reflection, there was only blue sky reflected as well as the beautiful sunflower.Equipment
The camera I took this photo with was a Nikon D5100. I did not use flash or a tripod. I unfortunately do not know what lens I was using other than it was a wide angle Nikkor lens.Inspiration
Honestly, this photo called to me. When I saw the spoons lying on the appetizer table, I knew that happy sunflower dancing in the reflection needed to be photographed.Editing
Yes. I was very new to Lightroom at the time and I used a preset called Grandma's Lemonade. I believe it is an OnOne free preset. I did some adjusting in Lightroom, but I believe it was very minimal - except with the preset of course! In my camera bag
For the most part I have always shot with Nikon. I currently use a Nikon D750 body. I have at least four Nikkor lenses with me at all times, a wide angle, a wide angle zoom, a 70-200 and a 60 micro.Feedback
Who would've thought something so ordinary would be so eye catching and awesome in a photo? I really believe that we need to explore our world and not just look all the exciting details, but even the mundane and ordinary. Don't be afraid to take that picture of a half eaten apple or a shoelace that is just laying there untied. Because in the ordinary there is usually something extraordinary that the artist in all of us can find.
