Location
Visiting my parents in law in Spain, my wife and I keep coming back to this spot with a great view across the mountain range.Time
My wife and I went back here a few times during magic hour and this time, everything fell into place. Light and weather conditions and us being there just in time before the sun sets fully behind the mountains.Lighting
I saw this framing in my mind and wanted it to look almost like a painting. Very minimal also. Used my long lens and punched all the way in with the sun coming in from the side behind the mountains. Giving this almost silhouette look to it.Equipment
Panasonic GH5 using the Canon 70-200mm lens. Handheld. All the way zoomed in.Inspiration
I was looking at getting a bit more of an abstract / minimal shot of the mountain range. I had taken plenty wide angle shots before and I really wanted to try out a more compressed look and very close framing of the mountains in the distance.Editing
Just some adjustments to bring out the sunset colors, a bit of dodging and burning to add a bit more mood and contrast to the image. Using masking. Also added a bit of more light to exaggerate the sun light coming in from the side.In my camera bag
Always taking my camera (obviously) - a Panasonic GH5 with an adapter for Canon lenses. A wide-ish angle, got a 12-35mm Sigma. A long lens, Canon 70-200mm. That covers most of the things I want to capture. Still planning to buy a good macro lens and maybe a good 50mm or 70mm portrait lens.Feedback
Go to the same spots more than once. Track the sun movements and how the light looks at different times of day. Depending on the location and your orientation a different time of day might be ideal for you to capture what you want. For this shot, I needed a high-enough viewpoint looking on a mountain range with the sun setting behind it.
