Location
I took this photo during a trip around Ubud on Bali (Indonesia). We climbed down a lot of steep stone stairs to find this waterfall hidden within a cave you had to climb through first. It was an amazing sight as we were the only ones there and as one of my friends was walking towards the waterfall, I took a quick shot.Time
This was one of my favourite pictures taken that day, we had already visited some other sights during the day and this was the last stop before we went for lunch. It was taken on 10.02.2018 - 1:12 PM.Lighting
The cave surrounding the waterfall was completely dark expect for the opening above the stream, bringing in a mysterious looking beam of light highlighting the area around the waterfall. It was captivating and a unique sight for us. I took the picture from behind to show how the person is walking towards the light as he approaches the water, aiming to give it a more mystical feel.Equipment
I used my Panasonic GH5 with a 12-60mm f2.8 zoom lens.Inspiration
I was trying to get a picture that conveys the mystical look and feel of this waterfall that is inside a cave. Several people were walking towards it and I thought that it looked mesmerizing and truly highlighted the play of light and shadow in this scene. Hence, I waited for another friend of mine to start his walk and took a picture.Editing
I used Lightroom to adjust the highlights and shadows to bring in more depth. On top of that, I took out all colours expect for the greens and reds to bring in further contrast and put more focus towards the subject of this image. In my camera bag
I always bring my Panasonic GH5 with the 12-60mm f2.8 lens which gives me more room to frame my shots. Besides, I pack a ND filter that cuts 6 stops of light so that I can take long exposure shots of watery scenes during the day. Next to that, I have my tripod that I need in the case of low light. Of course, lens cleaning utensils are a must as you get water or dirt on your lens a lot during outdoor shots.Feedback
Take a lot of time and a friend with you. Do not take out your camera immediately as you reach the location, take a look first, enjoy the scenery and search for something unique you think is worthy to capture. For low light shots like this one, a tripod is definitely very useful if you do not have insanely steady hands.
