Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo in a beautiful place near a caste in Italy. It was nice to be there but not easy to make people to know with an action photo with short depth of field....so i tried to find a place where to show how hot was the location....and so on :)

Time

It was near noon in October with the sun not so high and strong like in summer.

Lighting

In October it's easier to don't have a strong natural light by the sun but anyway i looked to have the sun on the side to emphatize the dust and her shadows and contrast.

Equipment

I used my favourite gear in that moment, the Nikon D4 and the Nikkor 300mm f/2,8 VR without any kind of tripod, flash or anything else. I want to be free during my shooting time and i want to get everything by the natural environment.

Inspiration

The dog for first ! Dogs always inspire me during the action. Each dog has an incredible personality that is visible if we take it in the right way.

Editing

Yes i think that post processing is mandatory today. With a good post processing i can improve the best features of the image. Like for a make-up on a girl. A good make-up is not visible as in photography a good post processing is not visible because we can work on adjustments and many other things like colors, tones, shadows and lights, black and white, contrast, curves, levels, sharpness etc. So many things to work with :)

In my camera bag

At the moment I'm bringing with me a Nikon D5 and a Nikon D4 as back-up (and a Nikon D750 for some portraits). Then my favourite lens the Nikkor 300mm f/2,8 VR, then the Nikkor 70-200mm f/2,8 VRII, the Nikon 24mm f/1,4, the Nikon 50mm f/1,4 and the Nikon 105mm f/2,8. Then many batteries and memory cards.

Feedback

The best advice i can give to poeple who want to capture something similar is to understand very well what they are going to take in photos. So observe first and then try to take photos. Get inspiration by the dog you have to face to. Adapt yourself to the subject and move yourself to take it in the best way !
