Location
I took this photo at a civil war re-enactment. His beauty caught my eye along with his obedient nature. He was so faithful to his owner. His soft fur and beautiful blue eyes caught my attention.Time
This photo was taken in the early afternoon about 2:00.Lighting
Luckily he was in the shade, the lighting was soft, peaking through a canopy of trees. I used some bounce fill flash to brighten his eyes.Equipment
I used a Canon 5D Mark III with my favorite lens, the 70-200 Canon L lens. I used a 600 XRT flash with a bounce card.Inspiration
His soft fur and beautiful eyes looked radiant in the soft light.Editing
I did some minimal post processing in the RAW mode of Adobe photoshop CS6. I adjusted the white balance, adjusted the exposure, clarity, whites and blacks, then, tweaked the whites and blacks in levels. In my camera bag
My canon 5D Mark III, 70-200 zoom f 2.8, 28-70mm 2.8 zoom, and my 85 prime 1.8. My 600 XRT flash with bracket and remote, my light meter, hand held reflector and a tripod.Feedback
Don't get too close or you might spook the animal..I sat close by and did not start shooting until the dog appeared comfortable with my presence...don't make a lot of noise and use a telephoto of at least 200mm. Spot meter your subject and set your spot focus on his eyes.
