One of my absolute favorite things to photograph in Portland are the cherry blossoms in the spring. I decided to get up early on my day off and hit the northern section of the Waterfront Park to capture sunrise with the cherry blossoms and the Steel Bridge. I almost left before the sun came through the clouds on the horizon near Mount Hood, but I'm glad I stuck it out to get the sun included as well.

Location
I took this photo at the north end of the Waterfront Park in Portland, Oregon (the Steel Bridge is seen at left).Time
This was shot during sunrise during the spring cherry blossom bloom.Lighting
I wanted to draw attention to the rising sun with the beautiful foreground of flowering trees leading the viewer up into that part of the photograph.Equipment
Nikon D800, Nikon 14-24 lens, tripod.Inspiration
I lived in Portland, Oregon for two years and a sunrise photograph of the cherry blossom was always on my list of things to photograph in the city. There were hundreds of other photographers that shot this scene this day, but I like to think that there was something unique about mine due to the way I shot it and how it was composed.Editing
This is straight out of the camera... just kidding! I always post-process in Lightroom and then Photoshop, with an emphasis on levels and layer masks. In my camera bag
The full complement of Nikon professional lenses, an intervalometer, and my car keys.Feedback
For popular scenes like this, it always helps to do some pre-planning to determine the best location to set-up and to arrive super early to get one of the best positions for the scene.
