I knew that a look at your gallery was a must do when I saw the playfulness in this photo.

Location
Back in my parent's conservatory on a rainy summer day. I had time to kill, an abundance of bright, flat (overcast) light, and a chess board I'd dug out of a childhood chest.Time
Midday, but it have been any time during sun up. This photograph wasn't about striking light.Lighting
Flat, soft and abundant (conservatory). The chessboard itself added a little fill.Equipment
My old Nikon D80 and trusty Nikon 105mm F/2.8 VR. A tripod. And some bluetack (to encourage the rebellious prawn to stand proud).Inspiration
I just loved the uniformity of the row of prawns and wanted to disrupt it. I also thought they looked rather imposing when viewed from a low angle. The black and white chequers of the chessboard also work to draw the eye into the frame.Editing
Conversion to B&W, contrast adjustment, and a subtle vignette. In my camera bag
Depends what I am shooting. My wildife setup comprises a Nikon D850, Nikon 200-500mm F/5.6, Nikon 20mm F1.8 and Nikon 60mm F2.8. For everything else, my D850 and 20mm F/1.8 will be complimented by a Sigma 24-35mm F/2 and either a Samyang 135mm F/2 or Nikon 70-200mm F/4.Feedback
A tripod is a must to nail the angle, composition and maximise your DOF. This photograph was taken at F/16. You want to be able to position yourself low so set your still life up on a table so you can shoot from a low perspective.
