This photo was taken up at Lake Tahoe, NV. The water is such crystal clear and the dogs love swimming in it. If you have never checked out Lake Tahoe, that is definitely a place for some spectacular photography.Time
This image was taken near sunset time. I remember this image popping into my mind earlier in the day, but new that the lighting wouldn't be right for it. I new the spot that would work perfect and it was such a nice evening I definitely did not mind staying around.Lighting
The timing of day had everything to do with lighting; that is why I had to wait a few hours in order to get the shot I want. Earlier on it was way to bright and would not have given me the nice soft look that I was wanting. It is definitely worth your time to stick out a shot if you need different lighting.Equipment
I am pretty shoot I shot this on my Canon 24-70mm L lens. That lens is such a great lens for travel and taken everywhere. It is so versatile and sharp. I had it attached to my Canon 5d mark iii another great travel camera. Not as bulky as my 1Dx, but does great photos when it does not need to max out iso or af speeds.Inspiration
I have been looking for a place to shoot this "Sittin Pretty" photo for a long time. There have been a few good places, but when we went to Tahoe and I saw this place for it, it worked perfect. Of course we did a few practice runs to make sure she (our dog) could do the "sittin Pretty" on the rock and hold the pose fine, so that way when the perfect lighting came around we would know the exact spot to do it in case there was going to be limited time.Editing
It was basic post processing for this image. A little bit to bring some more light in on the main subject (the dog), and a little bit on the background to bring more detail in on the sky.In my camera bag
This shot was different than other shots that I would actually go out and prepare for. This was a case of just being at the beach, so I only had my 5d mark iii camera and my 24-70mm lens. If I was going out for a session with a dog like this I would have my 1dx, my 24 prime, 35 prime and 85 prime. But when just chillen out the setup I had works out just fine.Feedback
When capturing animals you always have to be prepared. Lots of things can happen. Animals are NEVER completely predictable. We have worked on this dog quite a bit though so we know what she is capable of. At the time this trick was pretty new so my wife was actually close to her than I was and commanded her to do the trick. It made me have a few seconds more time to capture that shot, and as we all know a few seconds in photography can be all the difference.
