first of all, i would like to apologise for my english that is not my native language. i took this picture in a train from bangalore to ajmer in india in 2007. the train stopped waiting for another train to pass on the other direction. indian trains are always full of colorful people, unexpected situations, vibrating activities and is an easy way to get a good shot.Time
as most of the time in the morning in india, the fog was very thick, people from the train were still sleeping, i looked outside and i saw this shadow walking along the train and emerging from the mist.Lighting
the light is not particularly good and the picture his partly overexposed but the meaning of the picture is more about the atmosphere and the composition with the merging lines from the train, the railways and this unexpetected and quite scary character walking like a shadowEquipment
i used a compact numeric camera panasonic DMC-TZ15 released in asia in 2008. very basic and simple, but sometimes you can also take great shot because you can react very fast, that was necessary for this shot. i also had to pass the camera through the bars of the windows, and this would have been impossible with a big camera.Inspiration
as you watch the photo, you can easily imaging yourself hiding in an abandonned train watching discretly by the window if any zombie or scary creature did follow you.... damned, he finally found you...Editing
i just removed the colors of the picture using photoscape. the original was also a nice one but black and white was just creating a better atmosphereIn my camera bag
as a regular traveler ( most of the time trekker...) and often going to remote places, i just cannot bring a reflex and everything you need with, question of weight and place. and you can relatively get good shot with the last superzoom compact cameras on the market since a few years. it fits in your pocket. i also have two extra batteries with me, a very small tripod for timelapse of low light shot, and most important of it, a solar panel and a charger to be indepandant during my trips...Feedback
as a complete amateur i don't have any advice to give... just keep moving, be curious, be alive...
