I've stayed 16 nights at Cradle Mountain, and had one night and one morning when the weather was not blowing a gale, raining and occasionally snowing (horizontally in gale-force winds). This was the morning. No color, but also not a breath of wind, and a fog that didn't lift until mid-morning. The soft light through the fog brought out the autumn colors of the fagus (deciduous beech, or Nothofagus gunii), a floral relic of the super-continent Gondwanaland, and our only native deciduous tree. In the distance, reflected in the lake, is a stand of pencil pines, around 1,000 years old, and another alpine relic from the super-continent.

I'm glad you had the patience for this shot... beautiful. Been looking at many of your pics and am really jealous (just kidding) of all the travelling and pics you have done. Great work... I'll be back with more time to spend.

Perfect composition, love the contrasts and light with a touch of rich colours. A masterpiece!

The contrast between the very colourful foreground and the rather grayish background makes for a very spiritual ambiance. Thank you for sticking it out in the foul weather.
