It was mid-afternoon at the Whitewater Draw Wildlife Area in southeastern Arizona near the Mexican border. Thousands of sandhill cranes were gathered on the banks of the river while hundreds of additional cranes kept flying in after feeding on the harvested corn fields near by. Many of those landing I presumed were pairs just by seeing how incredibly close to each other they flew as they made their final descent.
