While most of the birch trees around Anchorage still have their autumn leaves intact those in this one stretch of trail by Baxter Bog have already lost most of them. It is not uncommon for all of the birch trees in a grove to be genetically identical and to be a little out of step with other groves as to when their leaves turn from green to yellow and when they drop their leaves.
