I saw this painting on one of the outside walls in the town of Leavenworth in Washington State. Once a failing logging town, beginning in the 1960s Leavenworth created an entirely new way of life by converting the city center into a German Bavarian appearing village. The buildings, the goods sold in the shops, some of the staff costumes, the wall murals, the type of music heard and the periodic events--all promoted this theme. The make over worked and today the town has a booming year-round tourist attraction.
