Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken from inside my house through my closed patio door. The bird was on an overhanging branch on my patio. I live in High Ridge MO, USA

Time

This was taken in the afternoon on a very cold overcast day.

Lighting

This area of my house is North facing and creates beautiful soft lighting.

Equipment

I used a Canon 60D with an EFS 55-250 IS STM Zoom set at f7.1 and at 250mm, on a tripod.

Inspiration

The weather had been very cold and I still wanted to do some photography. This was my 4th or 5th try at bird photography. I found it to be quite difficult and rewarding.

Editing

This image was captured as a RAW image and processed in ACR and then Photoshop. I used selective sharpening and then selectively reduced noise with the NIK Collection DFine filter.

In my camera bag

I use a Canon 60D, a 90mm Tamron f2.8 Macro lens, an EFS 55-250 zoom, and an EF 24-105 f3.5 IS STM lens.

Feedback

Get out there and capture images! I have been shooting for 50 years and on this project, I still learned about more photograpghy than I thought possible. This kept me busy during the Pandemic and through a particularly cold spell here in Missouri. I am now busy building bird feeding stations to attract more species of birds this Spring. (2021)
