Behind The Lens

Location

South Africa (RSA)

Time

This is a favorite of mine. it was taken close to sunset in 2000. The colors were spectacular that particular day.

Lighting

I waited for almost 2 hours for the light to be what I wanted.

Equipment

I used a handheld 2MP Nikon 950 camera.

Inspiration

This tree is a spectacular landmark in Africa. It is over 700 years old. The birds that nest in this tree only nest on the Western branches. I don't remember why they do this. The lower part of the trunk shows the damage done by elephants stripping the bark off for food during drought years.

Editing

I used PhotoShop to dodge and burn and added an overall color tint.

In my camera bag

Currently (2022) I have a Canon 60D with 24-70, 55-250 zooms, and a Tamron 90MM Macro lens.

Feedback

Shoot a lot of angles and take your time. For me, this was a once-in-a-lifetime image.
