I'm terribly sorry but only captures posted in September are eligible for the September Collection.
You got 3 more days to post new captures. Good luck.

Location
I was out mowing the grass on my property in TN and this little guy fell on me. I went to brush him off and got lit up by his stingers! So, instead of getting rid of him I put it in a small jar until the next day where I planed to snap a shot of him.Time
The day after I caught this little guy I was making breakfast early in the morning and the lighting was low and a slight overcast gave it a bank light look. As I was cooking I set up a tripod, picked a few flower petals and grabbed a piece of smoked glass. Still making breakfast I let him out of the jar and started to take a few shots being careful not to touch him again! The colors of this subject was so intense against the smoked glass I got caught up in the shoot and ended up burning my breakfast, but needed up with a few great shots.Lighting
Since the lighting was changing so fast that morning I had to work quickly. The light changed from soft overcast to a much harder direct light which changed the mood every few minutes. Working with available light is one of my favorites and over the years I noticed what I envisioned at the start on the shoot and what I get at the end are many times very different. On this subject I also used a white fill card set off to the side.Equipment
The camera used was my 30D Canon with Start-D tripod and a simple white card to use as fill. The subject was placed on a black smoked piece of glass and I used flower petals and other contrasting plants to help get my shot. As mentioned I used natural early morning light.Inspiration
The inspiration for this shot was the fantastic colors of this little guy. In nature if something is as colorful as this subject there is a reason. His sting was incredibly painful, but the beautiful contrast just drew me into looking at him through my lens. I'm hoping I can find another one this next year, but this time I'll be a lot more careful capturing him!Editing
I always run my shot through Photoshop to do dust removal or small, adjustments, but all in all I try not to over process. In my camera bag
Depending on what I'm shooting dictates what goes in my bag. My standard equipment is my camera body with a few different lenses, extra memory cards, cable release and handheld light meter. In the case of this shot I was at home so I had all of my equipment available, but only used a basic setup with available light.Feedback
Sometime things do drop from the sky into your lap. Literally! Always take what's given to you and work with it until you get what you want. Most of the time when I shoot I start out far away from the subject, but then get closer and closer. It's amassing how things change perspective and many times what I thought of at the start is completely different with what I end up with. My best advise is to get out and shoot and let the day given you that prize winning shot.
