This photo was taken in Columbus, OH close to Armando’s apartment by Ohio State University where he was a student.Time
This image was taken around 12:30 pm in the afternoon, in January.Lighting
I took this portrait outdoors in a cold winter month on a day there just happened to be a massive snow storm. At the time of his photos execution the snow storm had start, it was overcast with a lot of light billowing snow falling. Snow bounced what light was available back truly made the image.Equipment
I used a canon 80d, tamron 28-70 mm f/2.8 lens, and ring light light. Everything else was styling and natural fall of the elements during a winter shoot.Inspiration
I love photographing people, doing different creative shoots for them. I meant Armando with a friend when we were visiting a modeling agency in Columbus, OH. My friend besides being a former model likes to scout talent and had drug me over to meet Armando. His features and eyes drew me as they had my friend and I found myself offering to shoot him. The entire concept was to high light his eyes, while we did a snow series so he’d have some extra shots this was the image I was after.Editing
I do shoot RAW so there’s always a bit of post process even if just to convert to a photo other devices can view. For me this image was made almost perfect in camera, the only post was a little touch up and blemish removal. In my camera bag
I have been a traveling rodeo photographer for a decade who tends to shoot portraits in between in different city’s while on the road. My bag always has my canon 80d, 70-200 mm f/2.8 Lens, the tamron 28-70 mm f/2.8 Lens which has become a favorite of mine. As well as several primes, 24mm, 50mm and 85mm. In addition I carry a ring light, plethora of batteries and a canon rebel t3i extra body just in case.Feedback
Don’t be afraid to shoot in the elements. Rain and snow can make for stellar images. Many of my favorite and most compelling images are taken in the worst weather conditions. Have fun, play with you light, and just enjoy taking pictures. After all our super power is creation and recording snippets of time.
