Location
This photo was taken in Cape Hatteras Island in the Outer Banks of North Carolina.Time
This was a sunrise shot on such a beautiful morning.Lighting
I had originally went across the beach to shoot the lighthouse but while taking the photo I saw this amazing light illuminating from behind the lighthouse and decided after that I had to make the trek over.Equipment
Canon 5DSR and Zeiss Distagon 15 with a Gitzo tripod.Inspiration
While sitting and watching the waves come in I liked the detail of how they broke across the pile ons. The tricky part was getting the timing just right and making sure it was a wave that would break for me.Editing
I first did color balance, shadows and highlights in Capture One then brought them in to Photoshop. I then added micro contrast using a few levels with Lumenzia for luminosity masks and a small amount of Pro Contrast in CEP. Then LAB color for slight color adjustments. Finished off with a sharpening technique I've been working on using CEP output sharpener, lab color sharpener, Gaussian blur and luminosity masks. In my camera bag
Zeiss Distagon 15mm with Singh-Ray polarizer and firecrest 165 plates of 3,6 and 10 stop ND Filter and 3 stop Graduated. I also carry the Canon 70-200 2.8 II with 2x extender. A Canon 100mm macro and Canon 24-70 2.8 II.Feedback
When shooting waves try to be patient and get a feel of how the waves are coming in. Try to get the timing down and make sure to take MANY shots because everyone will be as different as the next.
