Location
Photo was taken at my sisters house in Antipolo during my vacation in the Philippines. We visited my father to celebrate his 90th birthday on May 10, 2016, he is a jolly person but camera shy.Time
It was afternoon at 2:40 PM I just took this photo candid while he was happy enjoying the birthday song at the same time my Daughter is offering the cake for him to blow the candle.Lighting
I did not use any lighting so that he could not notice that I will take the picture, except for the available room light and the glowing candle in the cake.Equipment
This was taken handheld using Nikon Df camera with a 50 mm lens at f1.4 and 1//250 sec shutter speed at ISO 3200.Inspiration
It was a challenge for me to snap this shot since it is difficult to take his natural smile when he is aware that someone is trying to take a picture of him.Editing
I have done the basic adjustment in lightroom just to match the actual lighting condition in the place and get the correct tone of the skin.In my camera bag
This time I only use Nikon Df with 50mm lens, while during photo shooting I always bring two cameras and the set of Nikon trinity lenses. A Manfrotto tripod, polarizing filter, set of ND filters, spare batteries, memory cards, 50mm f1.4 lens, cable release and a flash. Bulky, but you will hate yourself if you have the right equipment for the job but you did not bring it.Feedback
During parties and similar occasions high speed lenses are required for low light situation. It is always nice to capture the ambient light for natural result. Shooting always on different subjects and lighting conditions will improve your photography techniques and skills.
