This photo was taken while on a tour of Namibia, we visited many places but most were sand dunes or had a desert terrain to some degree. Namibia also has amazing sun rises and sunsets.Time
We left for the desert at about 5.30 am while it was still dark and drove out into the desert. We eventually arrived at a choosen site and walk up a sand dune ready to take photos at about 6.20 am.Lighting
We started taking photos before the sun peeped over the horizon but the best photos were definitely when the sun bathed all in its pathway in a beautiful gold halo.Equipment
To get the sunburst I needed to use a tripod, canon 7 mark 11 and 11-24mmF4L USM. Remote.Inspiration
The trip to Namibia lasted for 12 days and we had many stops with different photographic targets in mind. From the moment we left our camp that morning we were looking to take photos of the sun coming up over the desert and to show the wilderness and vastness of the area.Editing
I only use lightroom at the moment, being quite new to photography, and I just tweaked the photo a little here and there, it didn't need much as the colour and lighting were already available on the morning. In my camera bag
Normally I carry my canon 7 mark 11, and a 15-55 lens. Beside that will come my favourite Macro 100mm lens and probably 70-200mm. I find all of that heavy enough. Tied to the shoulder strap I have a tiny remote and a cleaner, which means I am always ready to go. There will also be a Lee filter or two. For the above trip, which was not a day trip, I also had a tripod, multiple batteries as I find the Canon 7 quite hard on batteries. I had my 11-24 for a wider view and the zoom allows me to change the photo without having to walk miles.Feedback
I myself am just learning how important it is to take photos during sun set and sun rise. Also important to use HDR to help get the best of the shadows and the colour. The other thing we had to be really careful of was the sand, which was everywhere. I used lots of plastic bags to keep things sand free.
