Behind The Lens
Location
The photo was taken on a hike in Ysperklamm, Austria.Time
I remember when we hiked there last summer it wasn't a great time to take pictures since there were so much yellow jackets. But we managed to get some good shots, especially this one. I love this one in particular because it was already getting late and we had a break at a beautiful waterfall where I got this picture of my daughter thinking and dreaming.Lighting
The light at the waterfall was great but the light behind my daughter was even better. The soon setting sun behind her and that golden shine between the trees was awesomen.Equipment
This was shot with my Nikon D800 and my Nikkor 105mm macro lens (I was mostly taking macros that day, my husband did most of the scenery) at f2.8 and 400 ISO. No other equipment was used.Inspiration
The light behind my daughter was very nice but what really inspired me to take this picture was the dreaming look on her face. This was a candid shot, when she really was kind of dreaming.Editing
Since this was shot with my macro lens, not the best choice for portraits, I enhanced the colors a bit and I also enhanced the sunrays and the sunflare a bit in photoshop. In my camera bag
I always carry my 105mm macro and a reversed 28mm for extreme macro, then I mostly have my 50mm and a 28-70mm f2.8 and a 70-200 f2.8 with me. It's easier to carry everything because my husband and I share the photo gear. If we don't carry much gear we use a 28-300mm.Feedback
If photographing children, in my opinion you get the best shots when they are not paying attention to you or your gear, like in this case. I took a couple of shots of her that day, but the best one is this candid portrait.
