Location
I took this photo just as we were embarking on a boat trip in Halong Bay.Time
It was taken late morning in August an I remember being disappointed in the weather. All the photos in the brochures had been taken on clear days with blue sky and this day was particularly misty.Lighting
We were on the boat for a while before we set off and there wasn’t any sign of the mist lifting but as it was the only opportunity we had to visit this spectacular location I took photos anyway. That’s the beauty of digital cameras -no waste of film if they don’t turn out!Equipment
I had a Lumix camera. We were traveling light so I had no other equipment.Inspiration
The mountains in the distance looked so dark and imposing in contrast with the peaceful scene in the foreground with the sole fisherman in his boat. The whole scene was out of this world.Editing
The photo is not edited. I grew up as a frustrated photographer pre the digital age and couldn’t afford to take numerous shots or pay for processing. Consequently I soon learnt to frame my shots and appreciate the benefits of an SLR camera. In my camera bag
I have a Samsung NX30 with a 18-55 OIS lens, a zoom lens 50-200 OIS and a mini tripod.Feedback
I always have my phone handy because you never know when a photo opportunity will arise. I’m not a great photographer and never will be as I don’t take the time to learn the “tricks of the trade”. I am quite a perfectionist in other aspects of my life but, not being so in this field, enables me to enjoy it and appreciate the beauty around me.
