Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken at Emu Park Yeppoon Queensland Aus. This is on the side of a road that runs along the coastline and is actually a causeway over a tidal lake. As the tide recedes, the tidal lake empties back into the ocean.

Time

It was around 9.30 - 10.00 in the morning when I had taken a walk along the beach to enjoy some quiet time. The view I could see as I walked along the beach was pretty plain until I came upon this water cascading down the rocks and running into the waves breaking against the rocks.

Lighting

That day was a bit windy and overcast, but I didn't feel the need to use a flash as There was enough white water to brighten the whole scene when viewed through the lens.

Equipment

If I remember correctly, the camera I used was a Fuji Finepix, my first digital camera. I never had the pleasure back then of using a tripod as I didn't own one and it had a set lens. I have upgraded since then.

Inspiration

I was walking along the quiet wind swept shoreline of the beach looking around for something, just anything to take photos of when I could hear the noise of rushing water in the distance. I walked around some cliffs to see this water rushing from beside the road. It was so eye catching to see water rushing down to meet the waves that were crashing against the rock wall from the causeway. It was like a turmoil between up and down, in and out of water combining together to become one. I stayed there for awhile watching the water and felt very peaceful even though I was focused on the turbulence being created.

Editing

The only processing I had done was to tweak the brightness a bit to make it stand out a bit more. Couldn't do much back then for processing. Boy, have we come a long way since the day that photo was taken.

In my camera bag

Back then I only had the small camera bag that held just the Fuji camera. Now I have a Canon EOS 600D with 1 regular lens and 1 Macro lens, a tripod, cleaning clothes and a remote control that I still haven't quite worked out how to operate to the best of my ability

Feedback

If you live near the coast and have rocky coastlines with tidal pools that are under water at high tide and empty out as the tide recedes, this could possibly be a place to start, keeping in mind to keep an eye on the water itself, safety first. Enjoy, relax, and find the best angle to obtain the best shot, the shot that just jumps out at you.
