This photo of a rose was taken in a friends garden, it looked so velvety and had the most beautiful scent to it. Sadly, she didn't know the name of it, and as I know there are so many different varieties and hybrids that come in that colour, I wasn't, at the time, going to as they say "Google it", as I wouldn't have been sure of which one it was.Time
It was around lunch time and the garden bed was still in sunshine, so quickly set up my camera and started clicking away. Had taken quite a few shots back from the rose to get the full rose in it with some of the leaves in the background that had blurred out a bit. then decideded a few close ups would be nice, was actually trying to get the velvety look, but the picture just didn't show that to a great extent.Lighting
As the sun was reaching it's peak before sliding down in behind the bigger trees in the backyard, I utilised the natural lighting of it. When I came in close, I made sure the sun was behind and to the right of me and that I was in a position where I didn't cast a shadow on the rose from myself or the camera as I kept moving slightly back or forward to get just what I wanted in the shot.Equipment
I shoot with a Canon EOS 600D and used the Canon EFS 18-55mm with image stabiliser lens. The camera was set to automatic as I am still learning what all the settings do. Didn't use a tripod, just two good legs and two steady hands.Inspiration
We were just wandering around my friends backyard looking at her plants when I smelt this beautiful perfume wafting in the air, came around into the yard itself and there it was. one rose bush so full of blooms and that perfume was so enticing. The different colour of pink throughout each bloom that were in different stages of blooming was amazing, but this one was fully open just this day and was near perfect, about the size of a sandwich across, it was a real "WOW" time for me. So just had to get it in digital form for prosperity.Editing
Not really, just cropped it down to the size I was happy with in regards to seeing the veins and slight texture of the petals better. In my camera bag
I have my Canon EOS 600D and two lenses, the 18-55mm and also the Canon EFS 55-250mm. Lens clothe, charging lead and a few extra SD cards (just in case...) haven't come any where near the filling up the one in the camera as I bought a few 16gb to start of with. I now also have a tripod in with the camera bag also.Feedback
I don't know, all I can say is just look at all the angles and keep moving around the object till you see what you really want to capture as you see it in your own mind, everyone has different ideas about what they see and how they interpret the image. For me, I believe I am not the artist in a sense, it is the creator of all the magnificent beauty and you can only try to capture what you only see and only what the creator allows you to see. In nature, there are so many hidden treasures to find and see, that if you don't take the time to really look closely at things from all angles, you may just miss out on that one opportunity to take that perfect shot that is really what you want.
