This is such a stunning photo. The roughness of the mountain, the soft vail of the waterfall, the mood, the proportions - really awesome

Wow! I love how to me, it seems you have captured that humans are a mere speck in the depth of the universe. It is an incredible shot!

Location
The subject in the photograph is my friend, we were touring Iceland and here he’s in front of the famous Skogafoss.Time
I was around 9.00 in the evening, late July which is usually pretty bright in Iceland that time of the year.Lighting
It was an overcast, grey evening - however it was not my intention to include the sky in this photograph - I zoomed in from the distance to frame only the waterfall and to have my friend dwarfed by this juxtaposition. Most of the light is reflected in the fall itself during the exposure time, with some softness coming from the top right corner (where the gap in the cliff is). The main idea was to balance the exposure time needed to get the desired flow in the water and to capture the mist rising against the rocky walls.Equipment
Nikon D7000, 18-200 telephoto zoom lens and tripod. A 4 stop ND filter was used to enable a 2 seconds exposure.Inspiration
I had this photograph in my mind while I was touring Iceland with my friend that I hadn’t seen in almost 4 years prior to this trip. The main idea was to compress the perspective and capture the sheer scale of this scene. Wanted to be simple, honest, yet powerful. I believe that the story of this photograph lies in the rapport that is established between the subject and the raw nature in front of him.Editing
Conversion to black and white and corrective cropping for a better framing. To get the desired angle I had to lay low and was quite difficult to get the intended framing in camera. Some contrast adjustments and a slight selenium tone have been added with Silver Effects Pro via Lightroom. In my camera bag
D7000, Sigma 120-400, Nikon10-24, Nikon18-200, Nikon 105 Macro, lee filters, B+W polarizer. Various ND filters. Vanguard tripod with a BBH200 Ball head. Remote, dry bag, oversized lens cloths, plenty of SD cards and spare battery.Feedback
Pre-visualise. Spend more time walking around the place until you “see it” first, rather than taking a lot of photographs and hoping for the best. I hope this image will inspire others to go off the beaten track and maybe discover a bit of themselves while doing it. It certainly worked for me in my journeys.
