People's Choice
Grand Jury Winner

"The colors and texture in the water are the two qualities that first drew me into this photograph. The addition of the surfer helps add important context and scale, helping to tell the story of this scene. Photographing this scene from overhead with a drone helps create a novel perspective on the very common subject of ocean waves. The photo also balances the power and the beauty of the ocean, with all of these elements coming together to create a really compelling photograph." - Sarah Marino

Runner Up

"This photo of a snow-covered arch in Iceland shows how captivating subtle colors and processing can be, two qualities that are too often forgotten in landscape photography today. The soft colors in the sky and ocean complement the cold feeling of the wintery snow quite well. While I often choose not to use really long exposures in my own work, I think the milky water works really well here by letting little hints of the rocky beach through and adding depth to the sea cliffs. This photo combines great timing with the snow, tasteful processing, a thoughtful composition, beautiful soft colors, and excellent technical execution, all of which come together to create a magical photograph." - Sarah Marino

Runner Up

"The vibrant greens of the Columbia River Gorge are showcased really nicely in this photo. Although this waterfall looks fairly large in scale, the rocks on the bottom and sides of the frame add intimacy to the scene. This intimacy helps elevate this photo because the compositional choices help me feel like I could step right into the photograph. The photographer’s choice of shutter speed leaves some nice texture in the water, as well. A compelling composition, subtle yet slightly dreaming processing, technical excellence, and a beautiful subject all come together to create a beautiful photograph." - Sarah Marino
