Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken as we treked down the volcano of Mt. Bromo Indonesia. Back burning of local farmers crops, created this mysterious atmosphere for my brother to walk through...

Time

The time of day was just after sunrise as the opportune moment to see the volcano was during the sunrise.

Lighting

I wanted the smoke and mysterious surroundings to be key in the frame. It needed to show the figure of the person and the smoke without losing detail.

Equipment

This was shot on a Canon 600D with a 24-105mm F/4 lens with attached UV filter for protection. No other equipment was used as the photo was taken quickly and easy before the smoke engulfed the whole frame...

Inspiration

I've always tried to move towards photos of people, towards the more candid of styles, as its natural blending into the natural, the look isn't forced. Of course inspiration always comes from Instagram and Viewbug as the content that continues to flow forces me to step up my game!

Editing

I always do little things through Lightroom eg contrast, exposure and black and white However I always try to do as little as possible as that forces me to make sure during the photo that everything is as it should be to save some work later on...

In my camera bag

I always carry around my Canon 50mm 1.8 lens which is amazing for low light and portrait photography and its just always been an essential part of my bag. I also couldnt go anywhere without my Canon 24-105mm lens as its amazing for the landscapes (quality and size wise). Then theres the general spare batteries, Sd Cards, cleaning equipment and much needed snacks haha and i couldn't forget my Benro travel tripod for that superb stability. I love my kit but it will only get bigger...

Feedback

Mt Bromo, Indonesia is very cold early morning, which is ironic as its a volcano haha so make sure you're prepared as being cold can take your mind off the task at hand. Make sure to take a deep breath and relax if you rush the shot it can cause mistakes that you wont pick up until later. However most of all enjoy yourself, the more fun you have, means the more relaxed and the better the shot, because you havent stressed yourself out over the result but have taken what you truely enjoy and what you feel... Take adventage of early morning or evenings as those colours will blow you away along with the landscape. Be patient and have FUN!!!!
