This one was a lot of work. I use Lee Grad ND filters and Darryl Benson Reverse Grads and think I used both on this shot. Thanks for the kind words.

You are brave taking the road to Hana :D, went there once but did not come back the main road, went around and boy was that a trip. Also Sep-Oct can be humid due to no trade winds. Have fun and will watch for your pics.

Thank you very much Mark. Worked hard on this one. Used both a ND grad and reverse grad to capture the light

I saw an email telling me this while in California. I was stunned. Thanks for your support and I will get back here after these visits with my boys.

Must be the long exposure as I don't consider myself 'Artistic', in the developmental way. Thanks.

Location
This was taken on the west side of Oahu, HI near Ko Olina, where there are 4 man made lagoons for the resorts along this beach.Time
It was just before sunset when I captured this image. The exact time was 6:46 PM on April 13, 2015Lighting
The light was spectacular with deep blue showing through the bottom of the clouds being lighted by the setting sun.Equipment
I used my Canon 5D-Mk II with EF24-105mm f/4L IS USM lens mounted on a Gitzo GT 2531 tripod with Really Right Stuff BH 55 Ball Head.I also used the following filters; Reverse Grad 3 Stop ND, Solid 3 Stop ND and a CPL.Inspiration
I love sunsets and sunrise images and the colors I observed here just had to be captured. I was also trying to capture the mood of the ocean flowing over the reef, which was also catching colors off the sky.Editing
I used Lightroom 5 and OnOne Perfect Effects 9. In light room I used the Lens Correction to enable the profile for the lens I was using and remove chromatic aberrations. I then made adjustments to highlights, shadows, black clipping and exposure. After this I made some adjustments using the Tone Curve. I then made some minor luminance adjustments. In OnOne Perfect Effects 9 I did some contrast adjustments and sharpening. In my camera bag
The equiipment with me on this evening was my 5DMKII (Full Frame Camera) a Canon EF16-35mm f/2.8 L USM, Canon EF24-105mm f/4.0 L IS USM and Canon EF70-200 f/2.8 L IS USM along with an extra battery and memory cards. I also had my Lee Grad ND filters, as well as Singh-Ray Reverse Grad Filters and a CPL.Feedback
Just get out and shoot a lot of sunsets and even sunrises with your gear so you learn which equipment to use and when. I have been using Grad ND filters for quite awhile and find them invaluable for sunsets and sunrise shots. I have also learned over time which combinations work for a particular scene I am working on. In this case I knew I would need the reverse grad to hold back the light from the sun and the CPL to help bring out the colors and contrast. Because this was a long exposure, the light on the water that puddled on the reef picked up quite a bit of light. To keep that light in check I used a 2 stop ND and inserted it in the holder upside down so the darker part of the graduated filter covered the bright spots of puddling water.
