This was spring of 2010, probably a bloom of a lifetime for wildflowers in Texas. Thanks.

Thanks Marion, it was a banner year in Texas in spring of 2010. Then the draught came, much like your part of Australia has had.

The colors jumps out. The angle of the fence is creative. The composition is very nice. Very pleasing to the eye.

Location
This photo was taken in Llano County, TX along TX 29 between Llano and Burnet. More specifically it was a scene along the south side of the highway just east of FM 1431 and west of County Rd 261 where there is a split rail fence.Time
This was taken on April 13, 2010 at 5:08 PM about three hours before sunset. This was one of the best years in Texas for wildflowers and I have not seen a year this good since. Many say it was a once in a lifetime bloom.Lighting
The sky was partly cloudy with large puffy cumulus clouds and the light moved across the ground as the clouds moved and this was taken with the area shaded to avoid any harsh light.Equipment
I used a Canon EOS 50D, my first DSLR camera, which I had been using for only about 8 months. I had a Canon EF16-35mm f/2.8L USM lens on the camera and mounted on a Gitzo tripod. Camera and lens settings were f/5.6, 26mm, 1/250 sec at ISO 200.Inspiration
I saw how the fence line seemed to be immersing itself in the bluebonnets due to the downhill slope. I moved in tight with the wide angle lens and shot downward to exaggerate this sense.Editing
I developed this image with LR 5 and the first thing I usually do is enable lens profile and remove chromatic aberrations, I then cropped the image to further tighten the scene then adjusted the shadows, highlights and both white and black clipping. I then made some minor adjustments to clarity & vibrance and adjusted the yellow luminance a bit and finally increased the contrast a bit. When I exported this as a JPG, I sharpened for the web.In my camera bag
At the time I took this photo all I had was one bag with my 50D, 16-35mm, 24-70mm and 70-200mm along with a polarizing filter. Not much compared to now.Feedback
Plan ahead and find out where and when wildflowers will be blooming. Check out web sites and blogs that post tips and reports of sightings. This was my first time to see the spring bloom of wildflowers in Texas and I wrote to the Chamber of Commerce and Visitors Centers in the 5 main counties that make up the "Hill Country" in central Texas. They all sent me detailed county maps along with literature on places to stay and eat. I also followed a web site called wildflowerhaven.com and bought a book that the owner of that sight had published on places to go. Main thing is to plan ahead and do research before you go. Good luck.
