"Spring is not shy; it can overwhelm the senses. There are beautiful flowers to smell, crawling insects to see, melodious bird songs to listen to, soft leaves to caress, and delicious lettuces to eat. Because spring can inundate you with its beauty, I chose photos that isolate specific moments, allowing the viewer to focus in on one thing. By far my favorite was "Yellow Wagtail Serenade " by AlvenmodFoto. I love the spontaneous-feeling capture of the bird mid-song; the photo feels real yet beautiful, and there’s a bit of humor in there as well, with the bird’s body language and ruffled feathers. The three runners-up were also quite lovely; I love how they focus in on one beautiful moment of springtime, allowing us to momentarily forget about everything else in the world." - Eric Mueller
A special thanks to our friend and professional photographer Eric Mueller for his collaboration as a guest judge in this photo contest. Eric Mueller is an artist, photographer, and teacher based in Minneapolis, Minnesota. As an artist, his work has been exhibited in dozens of group shows, including at the Plains Art Museum, the Devos Art Museum, Head On Photo Festival, and the Columbus Museum of Art. He has been recognized with awards by La Grande Photo, the Minnesota State Fair, Instagram, and the Mobile Photography Awards. As a commercial photographer, his clients include Explore Minnesota, Blu Dot, Budweiser, and Zagat Guides. And as a teacher, he works for IFP Minnesota, the Minnetonka Center for the Arts, and iPhone Photography School. He has about 50,000 followers on Instagram.
