This photo was taken at Lock and Dam 24 in Clarksville, Missouri on the Mississippi River. Eagles were fishing at the lock and dam on a very cold day. Most were staying very far out over the river. All of a sudden, this eagle flew right past me and I was able to make this image just before my hands got so cold I couldn't hold the camera any longer.Time
It was fairly early in the morning when the eagles like to fish.Lighting
It was cloudy with light snow falling on a bitterly cold day. I had to crank up my ISO for a faster shutter speed to stop the action.Equipment
I used a Canon IDx camera with a 400mm f/2.8 lens with a l.4 telextenderInspiration
I knew that the eagles were active at the lock and dam and that they really like cold weather for the fishing. So, I drove the one and a half hour drive from my house to Clarksville in hopes of getting something different. I wasn't disappointed.Editing
I did some cropping on this image. In my camera bag
I don't usually carry a camera bag. I carry the long lens to capture the eagles and a 24-70mm lens for any scenic shots I see along the way.Feedback
It usually takes quite a bit of patience and quick reflexes to get a good action shot of eagles. And, it helps if you don't mind standing outside in the cold for long periods of time. On that particular day, the wind chill next to the river was about 20 degrees below zero.
