Location
The photograph was taken in Glenfeshie, in Cairngorms National Park in Scotland, I was sitting in a very makeshift hide on a river bed. In July there are many Osprey photographs around and I wanted to achieve something different.Time
In early afternoon I had entered the hide, it was sweltering - Scotland and the rest of the UK was experiencing incredibly warm temperatures. The sky was brilliant blue so the last thing I expected was rain. It started as a refreshing cool drops of rain ( I realised the hide wasn't waterproof) to a full thunderstorm. I was drenched, my camera was safely tucked in its waterproof cover and somehow I just kept shooting as the Osprey stayed sat on the branch with its fish.Lighting
The lighting was changing by the minute as the storm passed through.Equipment
This was shot on a Canon 70d, 300mm 2.8 lens with a 1.4 converter on a tripod.Inspiration
For over two years I had wanted to get some different Osprey shots and after several failed outings, I went to Scotland and spent a week in different Osprey hides. But I knew many other photographers were doing the same so I was looking for a different shot. This was a case of being in the right place at the right time and getting soaked in a storm.Editing
In Photoshop I sharpened the image and cropped it.In my camera bag
The first item in my bag is my Canon 70d usually with my 100-400mm lens. But during the summer of 2014 a colleague at work lent me his 300 2.8 lens ( he was assigned decorating duties by his wife!). This lens is amazing and I am now the proud owner of one with a 1.4 converter. Otherwise in my bag in my waterproof covers and spares I quite often lend out, 2 magic cloths and the usual array of batteries and cards. Antiseptic wipes also generally come along with me as I usually get covered in something.Feedback
Scotland is amazing for wildlife photography across all of its seasons and has some great photographers and guides. I would say if it rains stick with it - some of my best shots have been in the rain.
