True Detective was able to find the perfect musical match in the existing song Far From Any Road by The Handsome Family. It tells the story of a cactus which blooms once every 1000 years. Anyone who witnesses the event goes mad. Which is *uncannily* similar to the show's story, as well as the book The King In Yellow, by Robert Chambers, which helped inspire much of the show's mystery and mythic qualities.

Another addition to my Pop Culture series (http:--sarahallegra.com-popculture.html) inspired by True Detective. And I don't think my mind is done feeling inspired by the spectacular show yet.

Since I have had, at current count, 8 colds since the end of July, one which last for 3 weeks, two ear infections with the colds and strep throat another time, I am having sinus surgery tomorrow. Apparently they aren't draining like they're supposed to, the germs are never really leaving and they keep taking over my body again and again. Despite my generally poor health, my sinuses haven't really ever been an issue up till now, so I'm hopeful that the surgery will clear things out and this will stop being an issue. Being acutely sick like this in addition to chronically sick has made the last couple months pretty difficult, but I'm eager to be done with the surgery and recovery so I can hopefully leave this behind! I am, of course, a little nervous though, so wish me luck! I'm fortunate that my husband Geoff, http:--unsinnimage.com, has been through this exact surgery and will be staying home with me the day of my surgery and the next to take care of me because he's wonderful like that :)
