Wow Sarah! This a wonderful and creative idea of shoting! I absolutely adore this photo. Can you tell me please how did it?

Thank you! It's actually not too hard, I had my model Sandy wear a very soft, flowy dress with a big skirt which I knew would swish around a lot; that helps with blending later. Since she's a dancer, I just told her to dance within a certain distance so she'd still be in frame. I shot it intentionally with a slow shutter speed to get the blurred look you see here - the actual settings will depend on where you're shooting. Anyway, I had Sandy dance around for a while in a few different spots, selected my favorite images and blended the frames together in Photoshop using layer masks. Oh, and make sure your camera is locked down tightly on your tripod and doesn't move between shots! That'll help you a LOT doing your post work :) Good luck! Give it a try, it's fun and really not hard!

Location
At a forested area not far from my home on the inner edge of Los Angeles. You'd be surprised how much nature there is here if you look for it!Time
About 6pm, just as the sun was sinking.Lighting
This was all natural light, I used a very long exposure (and a sturdy tripod) to capture the images despite the waning light.Equipment
A Nikon D5100, an old 35-70mm kit lens and a sturdy (but lightweight) tripod.Inspiration
This was inspired by the show Battlestar Galactica which plays with the idea of the same fate happening again and again. I also wanted to play up Sandy Moore's, my model, extensive dance background, blending her graceful movements together into a graceful cycle of repetitive fate.Editing
I blending numerous images of Sandy dancing into each other to create the dreamy, endless feel to her movements. I also played with the color, enhancing the natural blue, twilight look this had. A few tweaks of curves finished it off!In my camera bag
A Nikon D5100, a 50mm 1.8 lens, an old 35-70mm kit zoom lens, a lightweight, collapsible tripod, several cheap remote shutter releases and some snacks! You never know when your or your model's blood sugar might get low.Feedback
Dancers have the most graceful movements and are just a dream to photograph! If you can find some flowy clothing to put them in, like this chiffon nightgown, it will enhance their gracefulness even more. Generally, when I'm photographing dancers and don't have an extremely specific pose I need from them, I just give them a general outline of what I'd like and then let them go. The movements they'll come up with are usually much better than anything I would have suggested!
