Cool Shot. Like the Lighting and Comp. Is that a massive squirrel nest top left?

Location
I shot this image in a local wooded area on the outskirts of Los Angeles. Los Angeles isn't generally thought of as having lots of nature, but if you look for it, you can find some real gems!Time
This was just after noon, which is a time I highly avoid shooting at. I believe I'd run late this day and decided to try the shot anyway. As it happened, the trees filtered the light for me beautifully, which ended up adding to the shot is a way I wouldn't have expected.Lighting
I almost NEVER shoot in noon sun; I do everything I can to avoid it. But, occasionally, it will really work for you! This is one of those situations where things going wrong can make your image turn out right :)Equipment
I was using a Nikon D40 with a 35-70mm kit lens. No other equipment, just the camera!Inspiration
I had recently read an article about the inherent healing found in being surrounded by nature and I wanted to create an image around that idea. This large, sturdy log provided a perfect bed for my model, Aly Darling, to drape herself over and look like she had actually gone to sleep like that!Editing
I adjusted the colors and upped the saturation of the greens and added a vignette. I played with some curves and gradations of colors to enhance the natural golden light which was shimmering down on Aly.In my camera bag
Nowadays, I shoot with a Nikon D5100. I still have, and use, my 35-70mm kit lens, along with a 50mm 1.8 prime lens which I use more often. A tripod and remote shutter releases are always along too!Feedback
Scope out locations in nature and pay attention to how the light falls on it during the day. As I said, I would normally never choose to shoot at high noon, but sometimes the unexpected works! See if you can find a natural spot which looks like it would be comfortable to sit or lay in. It probably won't be that comfortable, but your model can pretend it is for a few minutes while you take your shot :) The more believable your model makes it look, the more peaceful the image will feel. And keep trying! If something doesn't work, just try it again! :)
