Merci M'Lady. The guy in front really is a master craftsman. He is building my studio!

I know the looks of a craftsmen and this guy fits the bill. I did construction work for over 12 years a lot of times no one earns their living more than a carpenter. Nice work and congratulations

Behind The Lens

Location

I finally decided to build my own studio in Baton Rouge Louisiana. Taking off the top of the carport seemed the best choice for 3 reasons; 1st I live in the city and did not want to take up any of the lot, the footprint so to speak, 2nd was the light. I had three LARGE windows purchased (9' tall and 6' wide) I needed to get above street level, and 3rd was I needed to be above street level so there would not be houses and cars in the background :-)

Time

This image was shot at pretty much High Noon. Note the shadows. It was HOT

Lighting

The lighting is obviously natural light. High noon harsh. The usual stark contrasts were mitigated by the reflective quality of the plywood reflecting up into the eyes. Because it is a 'yellowish' reflection, it blended well with the blues of daylight light

Equipment

I shoot Sony, This was my trusty A300 and a kit lens.

Inspiration

I was inspired to shoot this pic because I wanted to document the entire process of build the studio. It seemed natural to do so because duh... it was a photo studio. All along the way, with especially great images, I made 13x19 prints and gave them to the men building the studio. As an unplanned side benefit, they took additional pride in their - well - Craftsmanship. T'was fun for all of us :-)

Editing

A mega-fan of post process work, this image had precious little.

In my camera bag

I carry 2 Sony Cameras; an A300 with kit lens as backup and an A7Mark2 with a 24 -240. I do have tripods and use for low light situations or when shooting Actor Head Shots for absolute crispness. It is a myth that Sony's don't focus. A few filters rarely used, batteries (that part is true) and a gray card just in case. I believe the ye not the machine makes the vision.

Feedback

If you have a big project starting - document it! If there is a major construction going on near you - document it! You will learn soooo much by doing so. You think more clearly. Sure a good idea to plan it out ahead of time BUT I don't. I do it for yet another adventure. If you are specifically shooting outside under a bare bulb sun, think how you will handle the harsh shadows... a reflective surface bought or made or found. Like all of life, you can find pleasurable curiosities if you but look .... So Keep On Looking. rr
