West Coast Game Park Safari near Bandon, Oregon.Time
It was about 1:30 in the afternoon.Lighting
This was taken with natural light.Equipment
I use Canon cameras almost exclusively. This photograph was taken with a Canon PowerShot SX230 HS and it was hand-held as I walked the entire parkInspiration
I had driven past this park many times over the years but it was never open or I didn't have time to stop. This trip was intentional and I came specifically to experience wild animals.Editing
I removed the chain-link fence behind him and added jungle scenery background. In my camera bag
Camera, extra batteries, an extra memory card, microfiber cloth, and a flash diffuser for a DSLR that I found at a thrift store and hand-hold in front of the flash sometimes.Feedback
Don't shoot just one photo and walk away! Take a lot of photos because these animals move, change expression, roar, yawn, etc... I have a dozen photos of this guy walking the enclosure with his head down, in shadows and in bright sunlight. It wasn't until he plopped down on the log and surveyed the cameras poking through the fence that I was able to get this classic pose.
