Happening At The Zoo Photo Contest Winners
Thank you to all the photographers that shared their best photos showing animals at the zoo in the Happening At The Zoo Photo Contest with chances to win a Fire HD 10 Tablet or an iPad Mini (winner picks the prize!).
A special thanks to our friend and professional photographer Ron Magill for his collaboration as a guest judge. Ron has worked with wildlife for over 35 years and has had the privilege of having “hands-on” experience with a tremendous variety of animals. As Zoo Miami’s “Goodwill Ambassador”, he has made frequent television appearances on many programs including, “National Geographic Explorer”, the Discovery Networks, the “Today Show”, “Good Morning America”, “The Late Show”, “CBS’ This Morning”, “Dateline” and “CNN”. Ron has also been a regular guest on several Spanish language television programs including international hits “Sabado Gigante” and “Despierta America”.
"This image spoke to me in so many ways. First, as someone who has worked in a zoo for most of my life, I feel that the goal of zoos is to connect people, especially children, to wildlife and create an appreciation for it. This image illustrates that connection in a beautiful and impactful way. The look of wonder in the child's eyes is special and the look of the Orangutan seems to reflect uncertainty regarding the future and is perhaps a bit prophetic. The image shows that though different, we are also very much alike. I'd like to think it gives a message of hope for coexistence and the future." - Ron Magill

"This is a beautiful capture of a stunning animal reminding us that you can take the animal out of the wild but you cannot take the wild out of the animal. What I like most about this capture is how the photographer framed it with greenery using an open aperture to blur the leaves and draw you into the eyes that exhibit some the same green color while the rest of the image almost seems to be in black and white." - Ron Magill
