What a blessing to be able to see this in real life and such a blessing to be able to share such an amazing vision. Thank you for capturing such abeautiful scenery. Great picture.

Thank you for your kind comments. Yes, it was a blessing, and I was on the beach that morning by myself. Maybe because no one else was crazy enough to go out in the rain!

Location
I was standing on the beach at Morro Bay.Time
This is just after sunrise.Lighting
I got very lucky with this shot. Not only was the sun rising, but there was a storm moving in. The light was amazing!Equipment
I used my Olympus E-M5 with Rokinon 7.5mm fisheye lens on a tripod.Inspiration
First it was my Wife. We were in our Motorhome across the street and she was looking out of the window and told me I better get my butt out there because the sunrise was happening and I shouldn't miss it. Once I got out on the beach the show started and I was lucky enough to be there with my camera. You couldn't help but be inspired with a scene like this in front of you.Editing
This is actually a 3 shot HDR image. I shot 3 frames, 1 at the metered exposure and then 1 + and 1 - a stop from that. I wanted to capture all of the dynamic range in the scene that I could. I used Photomatix for the HDR work, then Photoshop for the basic stuff, and finally On One Perfect Effects 8 for some additional tweaking. My goal was to create an image that included all of the wonderful tones and light, but keep it real. It's a challenge for me to keep from over cooking an image. In my camera bag
In this case I had my Olympus E-M5 with Olympus 17mm f/1.8, Rokinon 7.5mm fisheye, and Panasonic 45-200mm lens.Feedback
I think half the battle is just being at the right place at the right time. You can increase your odds by watching the weather and getting your ass out of bed! Cloudy skies and storms can increase the drama of an image, and having the right light is icing on the cake!
