Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo in Sainte Croix wildlife park. It is a wildlife park wich protect endangered spieces. Some animals and birds are even free but fed at the park.

Time

This was the morning. The owl just finished her night and was falling asleep.

Lighting

I like how the head of the owl was turned to the weak beam of light.

Equipment

I clicked this shot with my Sony alpha 7S II and the Sigma 150-600mm.

Inspiration

I love owls. I love how they match perfectly to their environment and stay still. I liked the colors of the leafs here and autumn look of the scene. I wanted to show the owl in her tiny tree spot.

Editing

I mostly brought up the colors here and created a soft mood by bringing up the blacks.

In my camera bag

I have a Sony a7S II camera with a CANON 24-70mm f4, a SAMYANG 14mm f2.8, a SIGMA 150-600mm f/5.6-6.3 and a CANON 50mm f1.8. I also have a M42 adapter and an Helios 44-2 58mm f2.8 lens made in USSR. A Pola filter and ND filter are completing my equipement.

Feedback

I think the most difficult thing regarding owl photography is to actually find the owl. They are very discret animals and they hide perfectly high in trees. But once spotted the owl is a very quiet animal. It can sit without moving for a long time so you won't be in a hurry to look for the perfect angle.
