Behind The Lens
Location
We were shooting a short film in an abandonned theater in the middle of a small french border city next to Luxemburg called Sierck-les-bains. This shot was taken by the fire we did outside the theater.Time
After shooting I took a series of portraits of the actors by the fire. We finished at 1 a.m and it was freezing cold.Lighting
The scene is only lighten by the fire. Two friends were giving kiks to the fire to release sparkles.Equipment
I clicked this shot with my Sony alpha 7S II and the Helios 44-2 58mm f2.Inspiration
The movie we were shooting was about clandestine battles. I thought that a fire would be a good element to add in a portrait of a fighter covered with blood to figure the violence and savagery of the scene and caracters.Editing
The post processing here consisted in bringing up the highlights a bit and the shadows down. And I added red in the blacks to give a blood. In my camera bag
I have a Sony a7S II camera with a CANON 24-70mm f4, a SAMYANG 14mm f2.8, a CANON 75-300mm f4-5.6 and a CANON 50mm f1.8. I also have a M42 adapter and an Helios 44-2 58mm f2.8 lens made in USSR. And a Pola filter.Feedback
When I do set photography I like to capture the caracters more than the actors. I'm always trying to find a new angle or scene different from the movie but reflecting the mood and action that takes place in the final movie. There was no scene shot by the fire, not even a fire in the final movie but I thought this element was giving a good idea of the film's mood.
