Location
This photo was taken on my first trip to the Isle of Skye in Scotland. I had been wanting to visit for years due to it's many photographic locations and finally I made it. This is Neist Point a lighthouse at the end of a spit of land in the south west of the Island.Time
We had been out around the island all but we knew that the forecast for the next few days was not so good and this was likely the only day we were going to get any sun so we headed here for the late afternoon light and stayed until sundown.Lighting
Due to the cloud breaks and the low level of the sun the light was beautiful and warm, we had calculated that it would light up the side of the cliffs as the sun slowly set producing this lovely warm glow.Equipment
I used a Canon 5Ds with a Canon 16-35 mm lens on a Benro tripod with NiSi filters ( a 2 stop med grad and a 6 stop Nd ) plus a remote trigger release.Inspiration
It was the light and the leading lines of the cliff that inspired me to take this shot, plus I want to do a long exposure as I could see the clouds moving and thought it would be great to capture some movement while at the same time flatting out the water .Editing
Not a lot really I imported it into lightroom and basically just altered a few of the levels.. mainly the white balance and the exposure sliders to really capture the mood of the shot I had taken. In my camera bag
I'm a bit of a shocker really I try and take to much gear with me. I always have my 16-35 lens and 24-70 plus as many filters as I can fit in as well. If I am away I try and take a back up body of a Canon 6d to go with my Canon 5ds along with a lot of spare charged up batteries and memory cards.Feedback
Its hard when you go away to a place where you have always wanted to go as you want to shoot everything! Sometimes it's better to just stop and pick out a couple of places you really want to visit and let the conditions come to you.
