Location
This image was created from one of my basic zoo photos that was taken at the Milwaukee County Zoo - Milwaukee, Wisconsin.Time
It was taken on a sunny, summer day, at high noon. Not the ideal time of day.Lighting
The lighting in this image was pretty much basic.Equipment
It was shot with an Olympus OMD1 mark 2. 40-150R lens.Inspiration
I like the elephants and this one was fanning her ears out. I would wait until the ears were fully out and fire a bunch of shots off. Then she swung her trunk up to add more interest. It was not until I got home did I notice the placement of her front feet. It was the perfect pose, in my opinion.Editing
It being a typical zoo photo there was a lot of 'zoo clutter' in the background that was very distracting. All the processing in the photo was done in Photoshop Elements 16. First I do the basic processing, setting highlights, shadows, clarity, exposure. After I get the subject to where I like it I bring in another background to remove the distracting clutter. Finally, I paint in specific areas of sharpening (on the trunk and front foot) to bring attention to these areas. I also add some burning to create more depth within the photo. In my camera bag
I have 2 OMD1 bodies, the Mark2 and now the Mark3. I normally shoot with the 75-300mm, 40-150Rmm, and use the Zuiko 50mm for macro work.Feedback
There are numerous websites where you can learn this technique. The website I learned this on is The Daily Texture. There are also many other places on YouTube that you can check out. I find it very rewarding to turn an other wise normal photo into a piece of art. It is also very addictive.
