I took this photo of a glacier in Glacier Bay, Alaska. The stark contrasts between the white snow, the dark mountains, and the intense blue waters of the bay were particularly photogenic. I was impressed also with the way the different levels of the icy slopes were contoured as they ascend the mountain. The scene reminded me of an icy stairway rising up forever, so I titled it "Slippery Slope to Heaven." As all scientists agree, however, such naturally beautiful glaciers may be on a slippery slope to the underworld if drastic measures aren't taken to slow the pace of global warming, an effort that the current U.S. president has dismissed as a hoax
