Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in a forrest near the town of Ko?evje.

Time

It was the beginning of february 2014 at about 2 pm.

Lighting

Since the photo was taken at 2 pm during the day, there was plenty of natural light available, but because it was a hazy winter day, the light wasn't to harsh for that hour.

Equipment

I used my Sony NEX 5n camera with an old manual Carl Zeiss Jena Pancolar 1,8 / 50 mm lens and an M42-NEX lens adapter to make it work.

Inspiration

It was a nice winter day and we finally got some snow. We searched for a secluded place to take some portrait pictures and this snowy forrest was the perfect setting. There was also a half fallen or broken tree that I decided to partially use in the foreground, to enhance the composition.

Editing

I used some post processing to liven up the picture, because the colours were otherwise quite bleak. So I aded a bit of contrast and colour. I usually end up doing several different colour versions of my pictures and then I try to decide which one I like best. That decision is often the hardest part for me. In this case I decided for this version, although I also quite liked the bleaker version.

In my camera bag

I usually just carry my Sony NEX 5n camera, the 18-55mm Sony kit lens and a Carl Zeiss Jena Pancolar 1,8 / 50 mm lens. Sometimes I also bring a tripod depending on the purpose of the shoot

Feedback

The conditions for the shoot weren't particularly challenging. There was plenty of light which wasn't to harsh. One thing you should be careful when shooting with snow in the background, is not to blow the highlights.
