Location
I took the photo "Bike Rack' while strolling through the heart of Montreal, Canada's second largest city.Time
It was around 10:30 a.m on a sunny Monday morning in May.Lighting
I wanted to capture the repetitive circles of the wheels of the bikes situated in the bike rack and the light and shadow effect of those same wheels on the pavement. The time of day and the weather conditions - sunny, but not too sunny - created, I think, sufficient natural light to do so.Equipment
I used a Fujifilm FinePix S5700 camera. No other equipment was involved.Inspiration
Like any large city, Montreal can be a congested stop-and-go and parking-at-a-premium traffic pain. The cars parked in the background in "Bike Rack' hint at that. But to me the lone cyclist biking away from those cars and toward the bike rack, conveyed an image of a seemingly quiet tree-lined older neighborhood, a refuge in the heart of the city - and an alternative, more 'green' and enjoyable way to celebrate city life.Editing
Post-processing was limited to cropping out some buildings and cars on the right side, and in this way focusing the attention on the bike rack and biker sheltered - and highlighted - under a canopy of leafy trees. In my camera bag
Typically I now carry a Canon EOS 1300D camera, with a 18-55 mm. standard lens, a 58 mm. HD224 Telephoto lens, and a 58 mm. HD Wide-Angle with Macro Lens, tripod and a handful of filters.Feedback
Sometimes photographers have to stage their scene in order to be able to convey their message. I waited to take this picture - till there was no vehicular traffic and this lone cyclist appeared. My wait wasn't all that long - five minutes at most. In the meantime I parked myself on a bench and soaked up some late morning rays and the ambience of the neighborhood. As the saying goes, good things come to those who wait.
